Follow these simple steps to help keep your flowers looking beautiful for as long as possible

THE 5 MOST IMPORTANT FLOWER CARE TIPS​

1. Trim the stems

• Cut 1–2cm off the stems at a 45° angle

• Use sharp scissors or secateurs

• Recut every 2–3 days

2. Use clean water

• Always start with a clean vase

• Fill with fresh cool water

• Change water every 1–2 days

3. Remove leaves below the waterline

• Leaves sitting in water create bacteria

• This bacteria shortens the life of your flowers

4. Keep flowers cool

• Avoid direct sunlight

• Keep away from heaters and warm rooms

• A cooler spot will help them last longer

5. Keep away from fruit

• Fruit releases ethylene gas, which can cause flowers to age faster

USING FLOWER FOOD

If you purchased a flower food sachet, we recommend adding it to the vase when you first place your flowers in water.

Flower food helps to nourish the flowers while also slowing the growth of bacteria in the water. This helps the stems stay hydrated and can significantly extend the life of your flowers.

If you don’t have flower food, fresh clean water and regular stem trimming will still go a long way in helping your flowers last.

STORING FLOWERS BEFORE AN EVENT

If you have purchased flowers for a wedding or event, keeping them properly hydrated before arranging is very important.

• Keep flowers in buckets or vases with fresh water
• If available, store them in a cold room/fridge. If not, simply store them in the coolest part of the house, with air-con if possible
• Avoid garages, hot rooms or direct sunlight
• Allow flowers several hours to hydrate before arranging

• Gently remove plastic packaging to avoid them sweating prior to use

• Do not remove guard petals or thorns until you are ready to use or arrange your flowers

Many flowers will improve in appearance after a good drink of water.
